The Farm Trip
One day, a wealthy father took his son on a trip to the countryside.
He wanted to show him what poverty looks like.
They stayed with a humble family living on a small farm. There were no luxuries, no modern conveniences. Just hard work, open skies, and simple faith.
On the way home, the father asked,
“So, what did you learn?”
The son thought for a moment, then answered:
“We have one dog. They have four.
We have a pool. They have rivers.
We use lanterns at night. They have the stars.
We buy our food. They grow theirs.
We have walls to protect us. They have neighbors.
We have encyclopedias. They have the Bible.“
The boy paused, then added softly,
“Thanks, Dad… for showing me how poor we are.”
The richest life isn’t the one full of things. It’s the one full of meaning. It’s not wealth that makes us rich—it’s faith, simplicity, and the presence of God.
Wishing you peace, perspective, and maybe a starry sky or two this week.
