Einstein’s Fish

Sacred Patterns: Reflections from the Theoretical Frontier – Part 2
Summary/Teaser: Here is a reminder: you were created with purpose and intent—even if the world doesn’t see it.
Reflection:
Here is another brilliant quote by a man whose namesake is synonymous with geniuses.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its life believing that it is stupid.” 🎣🌳
– Albert Einstein (Theoretical Physicist, 1879-1955)
Hmm… Pause and reflect on that for a moment.
How often do we judge others because they don’t think or act like us? I know I have.
- I’ve judged those who fall asleep in class, assuming they’re lazy.
- I’ve looked down on people who aren’t Catholic, thinking they lack faith.
- I’ve criticized others for making poor choices, labeling them as “bad” human beings.
We often forget that we are all built for something unique—crafted by God’s hands like clay, each of us molded for a divine purpose.
- Some are called to pray fervently, lifting others up in silent devotion.
- Others find their calling in ministry or service, tending to the needs of those around them.
- And some fulfill their purpose through the simple, but sacred, act of being a loving family member or friend.
The Lord sees what others overlook.
Even when the world doesn’t recognize our gifts, God knows why He placed us here.
Each of us fills a niche in His grand design—a space where only we can truly fit.
The next time you disagree with how someone lives their life, remember this truth: God did not create fish to scale trees. Instead, He gave them roles that are equally wondrous and vital:
- Marvels of the ocean, reflecting the beauty of His creation.
- Stabilizers of ecosystems, maintaining balance in the deep.
- And the raw materials of the fishermen Jesus called to be His disciples and build His church.
Likewise, God did not create us all to fulfill the same tasks. He has given each of us unique gifts and roles that contribute to the beauty and balance of His kingdom.
So, when you’re tempted to judge or compare, pause and remember:
We are all fish in God’s vast ocean, each with a different but essential role. And just like those fishermen-turned-disciples, your calling may not be flashy, but it is always part of something divine.
Your brother in Christ,

PS You are loved beyond measure, always and forever.
